Week 1

This is my first blog I will be adding to this page in which I will be updating weekly on what I have done on my project and what I want to be doing.

I haven't chosen a project to do just yet, I have toyed with the idea of making something to do with Pi's such as a multimedia station and other things you can do with these. But I have also been looking at different games using Unreal engine as I am a passionate gamer myself so I feel this would be a fun project for me to do throughout the year.

This lesson I am going to decide on a project I want to do and look into more details into the project which could include looking at different YouTube clips or online blogs/websites to expand my knowledge and work out what is possible to do and what isn't.

I have spoken with my classmate Sam Barden and we have spoken about making a game on Unreal engine together as we both haven't looked into this at all and think it could be a good project for us both to work on as we both get on well with each other anyway and I know Sam is a hard worker and would be a good partner to have.

The project I have chosen to do is to remake PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds and make it my own in Unreal Engine. I am going to play on making a map with scattered villages and structures which will have set loot spawns in them, I will also create a plane for the start of the game which will fly over the map and allow the user to jump out of it when they wish.

Before I came to the finalisation of the project I had a couple of initial ideas including something to do with Raspberry Pi. I first came up with an multimedia station, my family always have spotify on at home but always have to load up different apps and devices to change music and where they want it to be played, so I was toying with the idea of just making a multimedia station on a Raspberry Pi to keep in the kitchen where everyone could access it and change it to what they wished.

Other ideas I came up with were other types of games. These included simple free roam worlds where you could complete quests, I also had an idea of a story line where you change the outcome depending on our answers but I believed this would be far too complicated to do.

The last thing I did today was start planning my presentation and doing the word document required for the assignment.

Social Impacts

With computers and the internet we tend to spend more time on them when we are at home, playing games or on social networks. We spend our time talking to each other on the phone or on Skype instead of actually going to each other’s houses having a laugh. We used to play board games with the family or sit together and talk but now we spend lots of time on computers.
It has a lot of negative impacts on the local community, lots of people aren’t as confident as they were before, there aren’t as many people out down the park playing football everyone is inside playing computer games together on fifa that’s the new football and if lots of people aren’t out and about now it brings the economy down, the positives are that you can communicate with people easier, you can find out more about the local village easier online so you know what to expect.
It affects people social life badly in person, it stops people going out and there a lot less confident, on the internet there is a screen on there so they just talk on Skype        and not face to face, it affects their health as they are not outside getting the exercise needed to be healthy. Social impacts are positive though as you get to speak to people around the world and get to know what other people are like.
Fast way of communicating is vital in the most jobs now, it improves customer services lots as you can get the information straight away instead of waiting days for letters you can just log on and email, it makes productivity a lot faster. For a person it is also good for every day to day life, if you aren’t sure what something is you can just log onto the internet and search it and you find the answer in minutes.

Smart phones let you access info on the go is both good and bad, it is good because it is helpful in the work place it allows us to find out information straight away for instance the price of something instead of going through lots of different people to find out one thing, it speeds up the process of the workplace, its bad because you can access anything you want including things you shouldn’t be on.

Legal Impacts

Plagiarism is where you take someone’s piece of work from the internet and claim is as yours, its ok to “quote” it but if you copy it word for word it is now as Plagiarism which is you taking over ownership of the work, this is where copyright comes in on books and films you can easily take from the internet so copyright law protects the owners work from being taken.

Economic Impacts of IT

There are positives and negatives with the employment structure, is has made more jobs as you need someone to make sure the internet is ok and that it doesn’t go down, the same goes with a server aswell if the server goes down the business needs someone to put it back up and running. But this also reduces jobs in writing as its not needed as much anymore.
With more and more office jobs saving everything online here isn’t as much pen and paper work in the business now, you now don’t need to go looking for people round the office you can just email them to get in contact this also improves work speed.

The high street have the worse effect from the internet, there is lots of online shopping now and big industries on there like amazon, meaning high street shops lose lots of business as everyone can just go online now instead of having to get out, travel and then buy the items they are looking for as it takes a lot of effort when its all online for them in a few clicks.
